Voodoo Music Fest + Halloween
Wow – what a great weekend. Voodoo Music Festival takes place in City Park, which is only a few blocks away from our house. I ended up receiving free VIP tickets for both of us for the whole weekend, so we spent the entire Halloween weekend at the fest with a great group of friends.
Saw some great music! Although neither of us are huge KISS fans, it is nice to be able to say we saw their show. Also, I really enjoyed Ween and Gogol Bordello. Widespread Panic played on Sunday afternoon, and we were able to go up to the front row. That was such a new experience for both of us. I have to say, I am starting to get a bit spoiled.

Widespread Panic + Allman Brothers
Music is a huge part of our life! Living in New Orleans, we have great music options, for pretty cheap, every night of the week. Our favorite local band, Papa Grows Funk, is playing the reception.
We also like to travel for music. We drove just south of Milwaukee (Alpine Valley) this summer for a couple of Phish shows. And we try to make at least 2 trips each year to see Widespread Panic. In April, we see them for a 3 night run in Orange Beach, AL. And in the fall, we always go to Birmingham, AL. Yes – all our vacations revolve around music!
Our annual Birmingham shows were this past weekend, only this year the Band is touring with the Allman Brothers, which was a great treat to see both bands, both nights with some great sit-ins on each. Greg Allman was spot on.
We had a great time with New Orleans friends and those we really only see during shows.
They are planing in Houston this weekend. Matt is itching to go since it would be so easy, but we will see them again in 2 weeks at Voodoo Fest (2 blocks from our house).

Engagement Party!
Matt and I had a great Saturday. Rachel, one of my bridesmaids, and her husband Mark hosted a wonderful engagement party for Matt and I. We wanted it to be intimate so that the New Orleans part of the wedding party could have real conversations and get to know each other.
Rachel’s backyard is a great place for a party! 1/2 Patio 1/2 yard, tons of seating, tropical plants and small twinkle lights made the perfect backdrop for such a gathering.
We are so pleased so many people could come. Thank you for all of your “word’s of wisdom” on marriage. And a huge thank you to Rachel and Mark for throwing a great party!
